History of NTDSW

The history of National Teen Driver Safety Week (NTDSW) began after several tragic crashes involving Pennsylvania high school students occurred. Congressman Charlie Dent (R- PA) and Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) and over 50 co-sponsors introduced the resolution creating NTDSW in October 2007.

The initiative was supported by the Young Driver Safety Research team at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company. NTDSW is conducted annually during the third full week of October in the United States.

Support for NTDSW has grown, with thousands of committed individuals and organizations participating to share teen driver safety messages with youth and their families. Many celebrities have formally endorsed the week, and many state and local officials across the country have also implemented programs and campaigns as part of NTDSW.

National Teen Driver Safety Week takes place on October 19-25, 2025. Get involved by sharing safety messages with others and knowing the history of NTDSW.
